Hotel Ruby Lilly Munich

The Hotel Ruby on Stiglmaierplatz in Munich is a wonderful example of how an old administrative building from the 1970s can be transformed into something completely new - a modern, stylish hotel with 170 rooms, a bar and reception. The transformation of a sober office building into a lively hotel in the centre of Munich was a particularly exciting task - not least because of the prominent location and the special architectural effect of the building on the outside.

The listed façade was a real highlight: it was preserved but carefully adapted to the needs of a hotel - with great sensitivity and respect for the original. The rooms themselves are bright, quiet and modern - a well thought-out design concept in a small space that skilfully combines functionality and style.
Of course, there were some challenges to overcome during the transformation: the low floor height of the existing building presented us with real planning hurdles when integrating the modern building technology. Fire protection also posed special challenges - for example, the existing stairwells had to be converted into safe escape routes. And then there was the listed building status, which had to be taken into account in every decision - especially when designing the façade.

But it is precisely this mixture of technical demands, design sensitivity and creative solutions that makes this project so special. It shows impressively how much potential there is in existing buildings - if you dare to break new ground.
